In the Vedic Namakaran (naming) ceremony, a child's name traditionally begins with a syllable tied to the nakshatra and pada (quarter) the Moon occupied at the moment of birth. Each of the 27 nakshatras is divided into four padas, and every pada has its own auspicious starting sound — known as the Naamakshar. Choosing a name that begins with this sound is believed to bring harmony between the child's name and their birth star.
