Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

AstroSamay ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the AstroSamay mobile application and related services.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you sign in with Google OAuth, we receive:

  • Your full name
  • Email address
  • A unique Google account identifier
  • Profile picture URL (optional)

1.2 Birth and Location Details

To generate your Vedic astrology Kundli (birth chart) and personalized Panchang, we collect:

  • Date of birth
  • Time of birth (if known)
  • Place of birth (city, country, latitude, longitude, timezone)
  • Current city / location (latitude, longitude, timezone), used for daily Panchang calculations
  • Selected Rashi (Moon sign)
  • Preferred language

1.3 Astrology Chart Data

When you generate Kundli charts (D1, D9, D10, etc.), we compute and store the planetary positions and predictions associated with your birth details. This data is cached for performance.

1.4 Chat History with Pandit Ji

Conversations with Pandit Ji are stored to:

  • Provide context within ongoing conversations
  • Improve the quality of responses through analytics
  • Train future models with anonymized data (planned, not yet active)

Logs include: your question, the response, your Rashi, your selected language, which charts were referenced, response time, and timestamp. Logs are linked to your user ID for personalization and quality review.

1.5 Device and Notification Data

If you enable push notifications, we store a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token associated with your account. This token allows us to send notifications to your specific device.

1.6 Automatic Data

We may automatically collect:

  • App usage statistics (screens viewed, features used)
  • Device information (model, OS version), for compatibility
  • Crash logs (if enabled) for debugging

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the data collected to:

  • Calculate accurate Vedic astrology charts (Kundli, divisional charts)
  • Generate location-aware Panchang (daily Hindu calendar)
  • Provide personalized horoscopes, mantras, and lucky predictions
  • Enable Pandit Ji chat with chart-aware responses
  • Send relevant push notifications (festivals, daily panchang alerts, articles)
  • Improve our services through aggregated analytics
  • Provide customer support
  • Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or technical issues

3. Data Storage and Security

Your personal data is stored in:

  • Supabase (encrypted PostgreSQL database, hosted on AWS), for user profile, Kundli charts, chat history
  • Firebase (Google Cloud Platform), for authentication and push notification delivery
  • Strapi CMS (our private Hetzner server in Europe), for editorial content and chat logs

All data transfer between your device and our servers occurs over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+). Database connections use industry-standard encryption.

4. Third-Party Services

AstroSamay uses the following third parties to deliver its services:

  • Google Sign-In, authentication
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging, push notifications
  • Supabase, backend database and authentication
  • VedAstro API, astronomical calculations for Vedic astrology charts
  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim, geocoding for city names → coordinates

These providers process your data only as required for service delivery and are bound by their own privacy policies.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only:

  • With third-party service providers listed above, strictly for service operation
  • When legally required (court order, government request) under applicable law
  • To protect our rights, prevent fraud, or safeguard user safety

6. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: View all data we hold about you (via the Profile screen)
  • Correction: Edit your profile, birth details, or location at any time
  • Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data (see Section 8)
  • Withdrawal of consent: Disable notifications, opt out of chat logging
  • Data portability: Request a copy of your data by emailing us

7. Data Retention

We retain your data as long as your account is active. Inactive accounts (no login for 24 months) may be archived. Chat logs are retained for 2 years for quality improvement; you can request earlier deletion via the in-app account deletion flow.

8. Account Deletion

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data:

Once you delete your account, all personal data, including birth details, Kundli charts, chat history, location, and FCM tokens, is permanently removed within 7 days.

Account data and activity data are stored separately. Account credentials and profile data are treated independently from your in-app activity data. On account deletion, processed only upon your explicit request, all account credentials and associated profile data will be permanently removed from our systems and database. After deletion, you are free to create a new account at any time.

Your in-app activity (screens viewed, features used, interaction patterns) is retained in anonymised form and cannot be linked back to you after account deletion. This anonymous activity data is used solely to track, analyse, and improve the app's user experience.

9. Children's Privacy

AstroSamay is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@astrosamay.app and we will promptly delete it.

10. International Data Transfers

Our infrastructure spans multiple countries (United States for Supabase/Firebase, Europe for our Strapi server, India for our team). By using AstroSamay, you consent to your data being processed in these jurisdictions, subject to applicable data protection laws.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Significant changes will be notified via in-app banner or email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
